Transport to Hospital

New Patient Transport Service arrangements take effect from Monday 4 June 2007 which are fairer and offer more options on how people can travel to and from hospital. The new arrangements are being put in place to give patients access to a wider choice of travel options.

Key features of the new service are:

• All patients will have access to a Single Point of Contact in their local area for information on transport available to them.
• These options include supported travel via local community car schemes and public bus and train services. Patients choosing to use community car schemes will be charged at an agreed rate per mile.
• Patients who receive qualifying benefits will be able to claim back travel costs at the agreed rates.
