Litchdon House

Litchdon House is an annexe that was added to the medical centre in 1998. Formerly a guest house, it was extensively refurbished to provide premium additional services to our patients.

Services Provided from Litchdon House

On-site Dispensary

Litchdon Medical Centre runs an on-site dispensary in collaboration with Lloyds pharmacy. Lloyds' staff work in conjunction with Litchdon Medical Centre employees to dispense one-off and repeat medications.

Social Services Outreach

We have been collaborating with the local social services department in a pilot to provide practice based social work that parallels medical and nursing endeavours. The outreach office is situated on the first floor of Litchdon House.

Barnstaple Chiropractic Clinic

A fully accredited chiropracter, Ms. S. Read-Jones, operates a clinic from Litchdon House. This clinic is a separate enterprise and runs independently of Litchdon Medical Centre.

Fully Equipped Operating Theatre

Part of Litchdon House was specifically converted with surgical procedures in mind. A fully equipped operating theatre occupies most of the ground floor. In 1998 we ran a community direct surgical access programme that was highly successful, and abolished the waiting list for day case surgery for all our patients, and delivered a waiting time of under six weeks from referral to operation! Sadly, this service was discontinued under the new NHS arrangements. The facility is currently moth-balled, other than for dermatology procedures performed by our Beacon service provider in dermatology, Dr. Brian Malcolm.

Litchdon Medical Centre is currently in negotiation with the North Devon Primary Care Trust and hopes to be in a position to offer a newly formulated service similar to this to the residents of North Devon in the future.

Rooms For Private Hire

A number of local consultants hire rooms for private work, and we have facilities in both Litchdon House and the main surgery that may be hired on a permanent or sessional basis by providers of health care. We offer not only rooms, but also receptionist services to such clients.
